Our History

1964
In April 1964, A.W. Lumb & Co Ltd was founded by Arthur William Lumb, commencing its incredible legacy of supplying top-notch building materials.
1968

We expanded our operations and opened a depot at the historic former engine shed and station master house in Ossett.

1980

A W Midlands moved to its current premises at Tamworth in 1980 after originally being formed in 1976.

1988
After the passing of our founder Arthur Lumb his son, David Lumb, took over as chairman.
2002

After the passing of David Lumb, our former MD John Cureton took over as chairman.

2008
After continued success and outgrowing its premises at Ossett, A W Lumb Northern moved to new premises in Dewsbury.
2017

There was a management buy- out by the then directors of the A W Lumb group. John Cureton, Trevor Jones, Mike Smith, Gavin McEntee, Martin Keay and Andrew Roberts.

2022

On 1st March 2022, in a huge development , AW Lumb was acquired by the Lords Group Trading Plc, headed by C.E.O. Shanker Patel. Our former director and part owner Martin Keay took over as M.D.

2022

Sadly, not long after Lords acquired AW Lumb, out former chairman John Cureton passed away. Even though John did not carry the Lumbs name, he was quite simply A W Lumb. His loss is just as strong today as it was then.
